John Hackley

John is an experienced leader and mentor sharing best practices identified & honed over 35 years of hands-on experience in the Visual Communications, Architectural and Electric Sign manufacturing industries.

At age 21 John started a one-man design studio providing custom designed logos and advertising artwork to Oakland’s small business districts.

Soon after he expanded into retail signage and graphics by hiring a hand full of talented craftspeople and taking on the San Francisco Bay Area market with sign painting, truck lettering, screen printing and sand blasted wood signs. As the client base continued to grow the demand for outdoor signage led to entry into the electric/neon signage marketplace and John securing his C45 sign contractor’s license (circa 1989).

By 1996 the comany took on a continuous improvement culture with professional management training, a proactive consultative sales approach (which his sister Shannon was recruited to spearhead) and custom manufacturing innovation. This began the transformation from a small shop to a corporation with a formal organizational structure which became (Hackley Architectural Signage, Inc.) a dominant competitor in the Healthcare and Corporate office signage marketplace for nearly 20 years. HAS established a reputation for the highest standards in design-build fabrication and project management within the visual communications community.

With a 20,000 sq./ft. company-owned manufacturing facility and an in-house staff of more than 35 employees, John expanded from the San Francisco Bay Area to having clients doing business across the country.

John established an highly effective team led by division managers in each discipline of Sales, Client Services, Fabrication, Finance and Installation. The team produced over 15,000 projects generating over 60 million dollars in revenue. HAS developed proprietary value-chain management technology and cutting-edge sign production processes based on LEAN Manufacturing principles in its state of the art facility.
